Cécile Roberfroid is a French/American abstract painter whose nomadic childhood—growing up in Niger, Congo, and Yemen—shaped her visual sensibility. Early exposure to different environments and cultures informs her intuitive, process-driven approach to painting, where layers are built, revised, and reworked over time. Trained in Fine Arts and Art Therapy, she creates abstract oil paintings that examine human emotion through material, gesture, and structure rather than narrative.
In her studio practice, Cécile works intuitively with oil on canvas, allowing color and paint to lead the process. Through layered mark-making—using tools ranging from tiles to sponges and scrapers—she builds depth, history, and dialogue within each piece. Working on multiple paintings simultaneously, her work evolves organically while maintaining strong thematic connections throughout her collections.
Art has been Cécile's lifelong sanctuary—from navigating foreign schools as a child to her work as an Art Therapist. Through her intimate approach, Cécile transforms abstract emotions into visual narratives that encourage viewers to embark on personal reflective explorations, creating a connection between internal feelings and their external manifestation.
Cécile has exhibited at the Arbor Gallery, Rye Art Center, Geary Gallery, and Augustine’s Salumeria. She has also participated in numerous group shows and her work is collected widely.
