Embodied
My figures appeared unexpectedly on the canvas, without initial intent to paint figuratively. While I typically allow my paintings to develop intuitively without structure, I found unexpected pleasure in starting with a rough plan and then making spontaneous adjustments. These figurative paintings demand some conceptual foundation, yet I still had creative freedom in the dynamic process of revealing and obscuring the forms—bringing the figures forward and then letting them dissolve back into the painted surface.
